It’s not and never will.

POS has no incentive to grow the network, make it faster or grow the blocks. It won’t scale.

Proof of Stake is a very bad idea for 2 reasons. With Proof of Stake, there’s very little real world resources used (such as the cost of electricity) to secure the network. That can lead to a collapse of the value of any coin that uses Proof of Stake because it is this cost that gives a coin value. Think about this. Why is gold more valuable than water? After all, you can argue that water is essential to life and water has way more uses than gold so it’s more useful so why is it that gold costs more per ounce? The answer is that it costs more per ounce to produce gold than it does to produce water. It costs a lot to produce Bitcoin through mining. Because of this, the miners don’t want to sell their Bitcoin cheaply. That gives Bitcoin value. If Ethereum goes to Proof of Stake, in the long term, Ethereum will lose its value because Proof of Stake allows creation of Ether with almost zero cost in real world resources. A second reason Proof of Stake is bad is that it leads to centralization. A small number of people control vast amounts of Ether. That means the future of the network is in the hands of a few people who can stake their huge amounts of Ether. The best way to make sure Ethereum remains decentralized is to keep Proof of Work because with Proof of Work, anybody with a computer can contribute to securing the network. That means many millions of people can help secure the network. If Ethereum continues going down the path of going to Proof of Stake, a small number of people will be able to stake more Ether than the rest of us and this is the definition of centralization.

PoW is great but long term it’s dinosaur tech unless PoW can be integrated with “useful work” rather than wasting energy – Cardano has shown PoS is the future.
